The Royal Red Robin Burger....Remade.

The Royal Red Robin Burger, one of the most popular of the restaurant’s line-up of Gourmet Burgers, consists of a sesame seed, bun, beef patty, American cheese, bacon, a fried egg, and mayonnaise. It also contains 1191 Calories, or 59% of the average American’s suggest daily Calorie intake, 83 g of which is from fat. This high fat content surpasses the AMDR (Acceptable Macronutrient Distribution Range) for fat. According to the AMDR for Americans, only 20-35% of Calories should come from fat. This single burger contains 37% of the average American’s Calories, all from fat, and that isn’t counting the “bottomless fries.”

While fat content may not seem like an important issue, saturated and trans fats are the most likely culprits to raise blood cholesterol levels, which can lead to arterial plaque, cardiac disease, heart attacks, and strokes. Although consuming higher fat items is acceptable in moderation, consuming products high in saturated or trans fats frequently (or constantly surpassing the AMDR for fat) will have a highly negative effect on overall health.

No one wants to give up their favorite foods, even if they’re high in fat or calories, so try cutting back to consuming an item particularly high in trans or saturated fat and calories. For instance, if you consume a large cheeseburger every day, try cutting back to once a week. Or, recreate the recipe at home yourself using lighter ingredients to get the similar taste with less fat and calories.

The Vegetarian Royal Red Robin
I made this recipe myself because I personally have not consumed beef for a number of years(for ethical reasons). I enjoyed it quite a bit, and have eaten it a few times since.

1 Bun (Use whole wheat for higher fiber content, if desired)
1 Vegan Boca Patty
1 Medium or Large Egg
1 Slice American Cheese
Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, and Pickles if desired
Fat-Free or Reduced Fat Mayonnaise, Mustard, Ketchup

1) Spray frying pan with PAM spray and crack egg over pan, frying over-easy
2) Meanwhile, cook Boca patty in microwave
3) Top the bottom bun with the Boca Patty, 1 slice American cheese, fried egg, and lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles if desired. Place condiments on top bun.

Nutritional Facts: 390 Calories, 10.4 g fat, 4.3 g saturated fat (Nutritional Analysis uses fat-free mayonnaise)

The Royal Red Robin- Turkey Burger Edition
1 Bun (Use whole wheat for higher fiber content, if desired)
1 Jennie-O’s Turkey Burger
1 Medium or Large Egg
1 Slice American Cheese
Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, and Pickles if desired
Fat-Free or Reduced Fat Mayonnaise, Mustard, Ketchup

1) Spray two pans with PAM spray. In one, cook burger until no visible pink remains. When cooking poultry burgers, the meat must be cooked all the way through, unlike beef burgers (which can be served rare or medium rare). Poultry has a higher risk of harmful bacteria and salmonella. Therefore, poultry must be cooked more thoroughly than beef.
2) In second pan, fry egg over easy.
3) Top the bottom bun with the Turkey Patty, 1 slice American cheese, fried egg, and lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles if desired. Place condiments on top bun.

Nutritional Facts: 490 Calories, 17.9 g fat, 7.3 g saturated fat (Nutritional Analysis uses fat-free mayonnaise)

The Royal Red Robin- Lean Beef Edition

1) Spray two pans with PAM spray. In one, cook burger until desired doneness.
2) In second pan, fry egg over easy.
3) Top the bottom bun with the Beef Patty, 1 slice American cheese, fried egg, and lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles if desired. Place condiments on top bun.
